Is Sitting Killing You?

Could your job literally be killing you?  I am sure many of us have wanted to tell our bosses that very thing. Surprisingly, there may be evidence that supports this thought, if you sit while you work.

Can sitting lead to a shorter life?

The digital and information lifestyle

Most people today spend 6+ hours sitting.  Much of that time sitting is for work purposes.  Since I began blogging earlier this year, the time I spend sitting in front of a computer has dramatically increased.

A couple things that are pretty important to me are my fitness and living an active lifestyle.  Believing that the additional time I sit at my computer may have negative effects on my health and fitness, I decided to do some research.

Below is an interesting infographic that I got from Medical Billing & Coding.  Take a look.

  1. I realise I don’t move nearly enough. Just too easy to get stuck into blogging and all my other activities that get done on my PC. Your post has reminded me to make more of an effort to get and keep moving.

    Thanks for sharing

  2. Nice graphics! I am physically handicapped (due to a viral infection when I was 2 and a half), and where I am blessed to be able to walk, I don’t move away from my laptop nearly as much as I should. Bad me. :(

    • Hey Danielle! You are definitely not alone. Hopefully this post puts this thought to the front of our minds and we all remember to move as much as we can. So not bad you, but bad us! :)

  3. I try to move as much as possible, but setting reminders is also a good way to go. I also like moving while doing certain things such as washing dishes by standing on tip-toes or doing some lunges at intervals.
